This Week in Sport: 5th February − 11th February 2024
There are some huge sporting events coming up this week. Monday will see the New York Rangers host the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL, Day 5 of the World Aquatics Championships takes place on Tuesday, and Ivory Coast take on DR Congo in the Africa Cup of Nations Semifinals on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Milwaukee Bucks face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA, and Australia host the West Indies in the first of three T20 games on Friday.
Heading into the weekend, Bayer Leverkusen go up against Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday, and Sunday will see Super Bowl LVIII take place, with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the San Francisco 49ers.
NHL: New York Rangers v Colorado Avalanche

On Monday, the New York Rangers will host the Colorado Avalanche at Madison Square Garden in the NHL. The Rangers currently sit top of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference with a record of 30-16-3, whilst the visitors are top of the Central Division in the Western Conference with a record of 32-14-3, so this is sure to be a high-quality affair.
World Aquatics Championships: 21st FINA World Aquatics Championships Day 5

Tuesday will see Day 5 of the World Aquatics Championships take place in Doha, Qatar. There will be some exciting events throughout Day 5, including the Team Technical and Women Solo Free Finals in artistic swimming, the women’s 10m Synchronised diving finals, as well as plenty of water polo action.
Africa Cup of Nations: Ivory Coast v DR Congo

The Africa Cup of Nations will see the Ivory Coast take on DR Congo in the Semfinals of the competition at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara on Wednesday. The hosts of the tournament, Ivory Coast, beat Mali 2-1 in the Quarterfinals and are on the hunt for their third Africa Cup of Nations title. Their opponents beat Guinea 3-1 in their Quarter-Final tie and have also won the competition twice overall. Nigeria take on South Africa in the other matchup.
NBA: Milwaukee Bucks v Minnesota Timberwolves

On Thursday, there is exciting NBA action, as the Milwaukee Bucks face the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Fiserv Forum. The hosts currently sit second in the Eastern Conference with a record of 33-17, whilst their opponents are second in the Western Conference with a record of 35-15, looking to move above the Oklahoma City Thunder with a win in this one.
Cricket in Australia: Australia v West Indies - 1st T20I

Australia take on the West Indies in the first of three T20 matches on Friday. This follows the two teams competing in a two Test match series, with each team winning a Test match each, and a three ODI series, which Australia currently lead 2-0, with the final of the three taking place on Tuesday this week. Australia will go in as favourites for the T20 series, playing on home soil and sitting three places above their opponents in the T20I Rankings.
Bundesliga: Bayer 04 Leverkusen v Bayern Munich

The Bundesliga title race heats up on Saturday, as Bayer Leverkusen, who currently sit top and remain undefeated in the league this season after 20 matches, host Bayern Munich, who sit two points behind them and are on the hunt for a 12th consecutive league title. The hosts have never won the Bundesliga, and a win here will give them confidence that they can go all the way this season.
NFL: Kansas City Chiefs v San Francisco 49ers - Super Bowl LVIII

Super Bowl LVIII will take place this Sunday at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and will see the reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, face the San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs will be aiming to win consecutive Super Bowls and win their fourth overall title. The 49ers are looking for their sixth Super Bowl title, having last won it in the 1994 season.
