This Week in Sport: 29th January − 4th February 2024
There are some exciting sporting events taking place this week. On Monday, the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA, Tuesday will see Bayern Munich take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and Liverpool face Chelsea in the Premier League on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Pebble Beach Pro-Am gets underway, and Friday will see the beginning of the 2024 Six Nations, as France host Ireland.
Heading into the weekend, the second Test of the series between India and England continues into Day 2 on Saturday, and Liverpool travel to Arsenal on Sunday for more Premier League action.
NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder v Minnesota Timberwolves

On Monday, the Oklahoma City Thunder host the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Paycom Center in the NBA. The hosts currently sit top of the Western Conference with a record of 32-14, whilst their opponents sit in second of the same conference with the same record. This is sure to be a high-quality matchup, as both sides fight for top spot.
UEFA Women’s Champions League : FC Bayern München Women v Paris Saint-Germain Féminine

The UEFA Women’s Champions League enters its final group stage match week, and Tuesday will see Bayern Munich host Paris Saint-Germain at the FC Bayern Campus. PSG will confirm their place in the Quarterfinals with a draw or better against Bayern, or if Ajax fail to defeat Roma in the other matchup in this group. Bayern face a more difficult task, requiring a win over PSG to progress to the next stage.
Premier League: Liverpool v Chelsea

Liverpool will host Chelsea in the Premier League on Wednesday at Anfield. The hosts currently sit top of the table and have only lost once so far this season, but it will be interesting to see whether the news that their manager, Jürgen Klopp, leaving at the end of the season will have any effect on the players’ performance. Chelsea have struggled a little this season, currently sitting ninth in the table, but have had a clear improvement in form in recent games, so will be hoping to give a strong Liverpool side a tough game.
PGA Tour: Pebble Beach Pro-Am

On Thursday, the always exciting PGA Tour Pebble Beach Pro-Am will get underway. Justin Rose won the 2023 competition and will return to defend his title, with Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler looking amongst the current favourites. The event, which is now a Signature event, will see a revised format, where the amateurs will only play Thursday and Friday, with only the professionals progressing to the final two days.
Six Nations: France v Ireland

The always exciting Six Nations gets underway for another year this Friday, as France host Ireland at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille. Reigning champions, Ireland, won the Grand Slam in last year’s competition, whilst France finished second and looked strong themselves throughout the tournament. The winner of this opener will be confident they can win the entire competition, as both are current favourites for the title.
Cricket in India: India v England (2nd Test) Day 2

The second Test match of the series between India and England gets underway this week, with Day 2 of the match taking place on Saturday. The Test will take place at the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy International Cricket Stadium. England recorded a famous victory in India in the First Test, with superb performances by Ollie Pope and debutant Tom Hartley, and will be hoping to reach similar levels in this one. India will be hoping to regain composure to find the form that usually sees them dominate on home soil.
Premier League: Arsenal v Liverpool

There is more Premier League action for Liverpool on Sunday as they head to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal. This is a high-quality matchup, where a win for Liverpool would see them create an eight-point lead over their opponents, whilst a win for Arsenal would keep their title hopes alive and in touch with Liverpool and Manchester City above them. You won’t want to miss this one.
