This Week in Sport: 12th February − 18th February 2024
There is some exciting sporting action taking place in the week ahead. On Monday, the World Aquatics Championships continue, Tuesday will see the Boston Bruins host the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL, and the WTA Tour’s Qatar Total Open continues Wednesday. On Thursday, the third Test match between India and England will begin, and Friday will see Leigh Leopards take on Huddersfield Giants in the Super League.
Heading into the weekend, UFC 298 takes place, as Alexander Volkanovski defends his belt against Ilia Topuria, and the NBA All Star Game will round out the week on Sunday. Also this week, this season’s UEFA Champions League knockout stages begin with the first set of last 16 fixtures on Tuesday and Wednesday.
World Aquatics Championships: 21st FINA World Aquatics Championships Day 11

On Monday, the 21st FINA World Aquatics Championships head into Day 11 of the event in Doha, Qatar. There are some extremely exciting swimming events lined up for the day, including the Men’s 100m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly, the Women’s 100m Butterfly, as well as the Women’s 200m Medley. There is also plenty of water polo action on display.
NHL: Boston Bruins v Tampa Bay Lightning

Tuesday will see an Atlantic Division clash in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, as the Boston Bruins host the Tampa Bay Lightning at TD Garden. The Bruins currently sit top of the Atlantic Division with a record of 32-11-9, whilst the Lightning are in third with a record of 28-20-5.
WTA Tour: Qatar Total Open Day 4

The WTA Tour’s Qatar Total Open heads into its fourth day on Wednesday at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha. The day will see the event’s Round of 16 take place, and current favourites for the singles title in this WTA 1000 tournament are reigning champion Iga Świątek, who has won this event two years running, as well as Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, and Ons Jabeur.
Cricket in India: India v England (3rd Test) Day 1

The third Test of the exciting Test series between India and England gets underway on Thursday at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The visitors won the first Test in impressive fashion, bringing their ‘Bazball’ style of cricket to India, where it is famously difficult to win. The hosts levelled the series in the second Test, winning by 106 runs. Both sides will be hoping to get their noses in front in the third match this week.
Super League: Leigh Leopards v Huddersfield Giants

On Friday, the Leigh Leopards and the Huddersfield Giants open their Super League 2024 campaigns against each other at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium. The Leopards had a successful season last year, finishing fifth in the Super League and winning their third ever Challenge Cup. The Giants, on the other hand, had less success, finishing ninth in the league table, so will want to improve this season.
UFC: UFC 298: Volkanovski v Topuria

Honda Center, Anaheim
UFC 298 will take place on Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Califronia, and the event will see current UFC Featherweight Champion, Alexander Volkanovski, defend his title against Ilia Topuria. Volkanovski sits on a UFC record of 26-3-0, whilst his opponent is undefeated, with a record of 14-0-0. The event will also see a Middleweight bout between Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa.
NBA: All Star Game 2024

Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis
Rounding out the week is the NBA All-Star Game, which will be hosted at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The event will see the best players in the game take on an array of challenges on Saturday, including 3-point and dunk contests, before the main event on Sunday, where the best Western Conference players will go head-to-head with the best Eastern Conference players. Players to watch out for include LeBron James, Nikola Jokić, and Damian Lillard.
