This Week in Sport: 20th May − 26th May 2024
There are some extremely exciting sporting events taking place around the world this week. The Vancouver Canucks host the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL Playoffs, the Indian Premier League moves into its playoff stages, with the Kolkata Knight Riders facing the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 1 matchup on Tuesday, and Wednesday will see Atalanta go head-to-head with Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League Final. On Thursday, Premier League Darts reaches its conclusion with the Play-Offs, and the Minnesota Timberwolves host the Dallas Mavericks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals on Friday.
Heading into the weekend, the FA Cup Final will see old rivals Manchester City and Manchester United battle it out for the trophy on Saturday, and the prestigious Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix takes place on Sunday.
NHL: Vancouver Canucks v Edmonton Oilers

On Monday, the Vancouver Canucks take on the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena in Game 7 of their Round 2 matchup in the NHL Playoffs. The series has been taken to its final game with both sides winning three games each so far. The visitors will probably come in with more confidence in this one after winning Game 6 5-1 at home, but the Canucks have home advantage here, so it is sure to be an interesting matchup. The winner of this one will go on to face the Dallas Stars in the NHL Conference Finals.
Indian Premier League: Kolkata Knight Riders v Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Indian Premier League moves into its playoff stages on Tuesday, with the Kolkata Knight Riders taking on the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 1 matchup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This matchup sees first place KKR and second place SRH compete for a place in the IPL Final on Sunday, with the winner of this one progressing straight to the Final. The loser will have to face the winner of the Eliminator match, between the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking place on Wednesday, in the Qualifier 2 match on Friday.
UEFA Europa League: Atalanta v Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Wednesday will see the conclusion of this season’s UEFA Europa League, as Atalanta face Bayer Leverkusen in the Final of the competition at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Atalanta beat Marseille fairly comfortably in the Semifinals but come into this one off the back of a deflating 1-0 defeat against Juventus in the Coppa Italia Final. Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, have not lost a single match all season, lifting the Bundesliga title undefeated, and having the chance to lift two more this week; here in the Europa League and in the DFB Pokal Final against FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday.
PDC Darts: Premier League Darts Play-Offs

The PDC Premier League Darts reaches its climax with the Play-Offs on Thursday, the final night of the competition. The top four from the sixteen nights if the competition will compete to lift the trophy at the O2 Arena in London. The Semifinals, which will be best of 19 legs, see Luke Littler face Michael Smith and Luke Humphries take on Michael van Gerwen. The winners of these matches will progress to the Final, which is best of 21 legs.
NBA: Minnesota Timberwolves v Dallas Mavericks

Target Center, Minneapolis
On Friday, Game 2 of the NBA’s Western Conference Finals will take place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, after Game 1 on Wednesday, also in Minneapolis. The hosts in this one beat out reigning NBA Champions, the Denver Nuggets, 4-3 to progress to this stage, whilst their opponents defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 4-2 in their series. The winner of this series progresses to the NBA Finals against either the Boston Celtics or the Indiana Pacers.
FA Cup: Manchester City v Manchester United

Wembley Stadium, London
Saturday will see Manchester City and Manchester United battle it out in the Final of the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium. City come off the back of lifting their record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title, whilst United suffered their worst ever Premier League season finish, finishing in eighth place. City are also looking for consecutive titles in the FA Cup, with their opponents looking for their 13th win in the competition.
Formula 1: Monaco Grand Prix
Sunday 26th May 1:00PM GMT/3:00PM Local Time
Circuit de Monaco, Monaco
Rounding out the week, Formula 1 action sees the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix take place on Sunday. Last year’s race was won by eventual Champion Max Verstappen, and the Dutch driver looks favourite again this year, after winning five of the first seven races of the season. However, British driver Lando Norris will fancy his chances after winning his first ever Formula 1 race at the Miami Grand Prix and finishing on the podium four times this season.
