This Week in Sport: 13th May − 19th May 2024
The upcoming week is stacked with exciting sporting events. On Monday, the Dallas Mavericks host the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Playoffs, Tuesday sees the Edmonton Oilers face the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL Playoffs, and Tottenham Hotspur take on Chelsea in the FA Women’s Super League on Wednesday. On Thursday, the PGA Championship begins, and Friday will see the Italian Open tennis continue.
Heading into the weekend, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will compete to become the undisputed Heavyweight boxing Champion on Saturday, and the week is rounded out by the final matchday of the Premier League season on Sunday.
NBA: Dallas Mavericks v Oklahoma City Thunder

The NBA Playoffs continue on Monday with the Dallas Mavericks hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals at the American Airlines Center. The Mavericks currently lead the series 2-1 and will be hoping home-advantage will see them take a step closer to the next round with a win here. The Thunder will be wanting to recapture their form from the regular season, which saw them top the Western Conference, to turn this series around.
NHL: Edmonton Oilers v Vancouver Canucks

On Tuesday, the NHL Playoffs will see the Edmonton Oilers take on the Vancouver Canucks in Round 2 at Rogers Place. The visitors currently lead the series 2-1, but the two sides have been hard to separate in the first three games of the series, with neither side winning a game by more than one goal, so there is much to still play for here.
FA Women's Super League: Tottenham Hotspur Women v Chelsea Women

There is FA Women’s Super League on Wednesday, as Tottenham Hotspur take on Chelsea at Brisbane Road. Tottenham are left with little to play for going into the final two matches of the season but will want to win bragging rights over London rivals Chelsea. The visitors, on the other hand, will move above Manchester City in first place with a win here, and will move closer to a potential fifth consecutive WSL title. The final matchday will take place on Saturday, when the title will be decided.
Major Championships (Golf): PGA Championship

The highly anticipated second golf major of the year, the PGA Championship, begins on Thursday at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. Brooks Koepka returns to defend his 2023 title, but will face tough competition from the 2024 Masters Champion, Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy. The latter comes off the back off a dominant win at the Wells Fargo Championship last week.
WTA Tour: Italian Open Day 11

On Friday, the WTA and ATP Tour’s Italian Open will continue at the Foro Italico in Rome. Friday will see the ATP Semifinals take place and the WTA Doubles Semifinals. The WTA Final will take place on Saturday and ATP Final on Sunday. In the men’s singles tournament, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev are all amongst the favourites still in the competition, whilst in the women’s singles, Coco Gauff, Iga Świątek, and Aryna Sabalenka look to be amongst the favourites to take the title.

Boxing Fights: Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk

KINGDOM ARENA, Riyadh
On Saturday, one of the most anticipated boxing fights in recent times, dubbed the Ring of Fire, will take place at the KINGDOM ARENA in Riyadh, with Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk putting their belts on the line to become the undisputed Heavyweight champion, in a fight which was originally scheduled for February, but was postponed due to Fury picking up an injury prior to the fight. The event will begin Saturday evening, local time, but the main fight of the night is likely to take place in the early hours of Sunday morning in Riyadh.
Premier League: Final Matchday

Rounding out the week, the Premier League season reaches its conclusion on Sunday with the Final Matchday. Arsenal and Manchester City are still neck and neck in the title race going into the last match week of the season. Manchester City are most people’s favourites to top the table, which will be their fourth consecutive Premier League title, and they face West Ham United on the final day, but Arsenal will be ready to pounce on any mistake and will have to beat Everton to give themselves a chance to lift the title.
