There are some huge fixtures lined up this week in the world of sport. Monday sees Day 5 of the Women’s Ashes standalone Test match take place, the Henley Royal Regatta begins on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, the second Ashes Test begins, as England and Australia head to Lord’s. On Thursday, the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Tampa Bay Rays in the MLB, and the Lausanne Diamond League event takes place on Friday.

Heading into the weekend, the famous Tour de France begins on Saturday in Bilbao, Spain, and Formula 1 action rounds out the week with the Austrian Grand Prix.

Cricket in England: England Women v Australia Women

The Women’s standalone Ashes Test match heads into its final day of action this Monday. England finished day four on 116 for five and face an uphill battle to win the match, needing 152 runs with just five wickets remaining. Australia will be happy with their bowling performance in the second innings, especially after limiting Tamsin Beaumont to just 22 runs, a batter who achieved a record-breaking 208 in the first innings.

Henley Royal Regatta: Henley Royal Regatta Day 1

Henley-on-Thames, United Kingdom

Tuesday sees the Henley Royal Regatta begin, as some of the best rowers head to Henley-on-Thames for six days of races and events. Some of the most notable races to keep your eyes on include the Grand Challenge Cup for Men's Eights and the Diamond Challenge Sculls. There will be plenty of action to catch throughout the week.

The Ashes: England v Australia

The second Test match of this year’s Ashes series begins on Wednesday, as England and Australia head to the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground. Australia narrowly won the first Test, beating England by two wickets, in what was an exciting affair that sets the tone for the rest of the series. England will be hoping they can bounce back from defeat and produce a performance that their new style of play has become renowned for over the past year. You won’t want to miss this one.

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks v Tampa Bay Rays

The Arizona Diamondbacks host the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game series this week in the MLB, with the third and final game taking place on Thursday. Both teams sit top of their respective divisions, so there is no doubt it will be a high-quality affair. The Diamondbacks have won six of their last ten games, whilst the Rays have won five, but have a stronger overall number of wins, currently sitting on 54 to Arizona’s 47.

Diamond League: Diamond League Lausanne

The Diamond League heads to Lausanne in Switzerland this Friday, as some of the world’s best athletes gather to compete against one another and showcase their talents. Notable events to keep an eye out for in this edition of the competition include the men’s 5000m, which will see Olympic champion and world record holder Joshua Cheptegei face tough opposition from Selemon Barega, Yomif Kejelcha, and Dominic Lobalu. In addition to this, the men’s 1500m will see Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen go up against Timothy Cheruiyot and Jake Wightman.

Tour de France: Tour de France Stage 1

Bilbao, Spain

Saturday sees the beginning of the prestigious Tour de France, the second cycling Grand Tour of the year. The riders begin their journey in Bilbao, Spain, and will travel almost 3500 kilometres, finishing in Paris on 23rd July. Last year’s winner, Jonas Vingegaard, goes into the event as favourite, but will come up against difficult opposition from two-time champion Tadej Pogačar, and 2022 Giro d’Italia winner Jai Hindley.

Formula 1: Austrian Grand Prix

Red Bull Ring Spielberg, Spielberg

Formula 1 heads to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg for the Austrian Grand Prix. In what is their home race, Red Bull will be looking to continue their dominant form, a run that has seen them win every race so far this season. The event is the second of six Sprint race weekends, so fans will be treated to extra racing action over the weekend. Make sure you tune into this one.
