There are some huge sporting events coming up this week. The US Open begins on Monday, Tuesday sees Stage 10 of the Vuelta a España, the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony is on Wednesday. The Tour Championship commences on Thursday, and Friday will see the Diamond League move to Italy.

Going into the weekend, South Africa takes on New Zealand in the Rugby Championship on Saturday, and Manchester United battles Liverpool on Sunday.

Grand Slam (Tennis): US Open 2024 Day 1

The US Open, the final Grand Slam of the season, gets under way on Monday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. On the Arthur Ashe Stadium Court, Dominic Thiem will face Ben Shelton, followed by defending women's champion Coco Gauff taking on Varvara Gracheva. In the evening on Ashe, Sloane Stephens and defending men's champion Novak Djokovic headline the evening, taking on Clara Burel and Radu Albot, respectively.

Vuelta a España: Vuelta a España Stage 10

The Vuelta a España continues on Tuesday with a demanding Stage 10, stretching 160 kilometers from Ponteareas to Baiona. Race leader and red jersey holder Ben O’Connor had a dominant performance last Thursday in Stage 6 between Jerez de la Frontera and Yunquera, putting a solid gap between himself and the other riders. Keep an eye on second placed Primož Roglič in the second full week of the Tour as he tries to close the gap of 3 minutes and 53 seconds to O'Connor.

Paralympic Ceremonies: Opening Ceremony

Place de la Concorde, Paris

Wednesday will see the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games take place at the Place de la Concorde in Paris. A total of more than 4,400 athletes from 168 National Paralympic Committees will take part across 22 sports over 11 days of competition. After the highly successful Paris Olympics, there is a high anticipation for the Paralympics.

PGA Tour: Tour Championship

East Lake Golf Course, Atlanta

The FedEx Cup reaches its climax as the Tour Championship begins on Thursday at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Scottie Scheffler (-10 starting score) leads the FedExCup and is at the top of the leaderboard looking to win the Cup for the first time. Xander Schauffele (-8), Hideki Matsuyama (-7), Keegan Bradley (-6) and Ludvig Åberg (-5) are expected to be his main competition.

Diamond League: Diamond League Italy

Friday 30th August 4:00PM GMT/6:00PM Local Time

Stadio Olimpico, Rome

On Friday, the Diamond League heads to Italy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The event will see Olympic medallists Letsile Tebogo, Kishane Thompson and Fred Kerley go head to head in a stellar Men's 100m field. Botswana's Tebogo took gold in the 200m at the Olympic Games in Paris, and will be eyeing his first 100m Diamond League win of the season. Other highlights include the Women's 200m, Men's 400m and Women's 400m hurdles.

The Rugby Championship: South Africa v New Zealand

Saturday sees South Africa face New Zealand in an exciting Rugby Championship clash at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg. The Springboks have won nine of the 15 games they've played against New Zealand in Johannesburg. However, the All Blacks won their most recent test at Ellis Park, beating South Africa 35-23 in 2022. South Africa currently sit top of the Rugby Championship table with 10 points, with New Zealand in second with 5 points.

Premier League: Manchester United v Liverpool

Old Trafford, Manchester

On Sunday, old rivals Manchester United and Liverpool will lock horns in an epic Premier League clash at Old Trafford. Manchester United delivered a mixed performance as they fell to their first defeat of the season at Brighton on Saturday. Liverpool, on the other hand, are flying with 2 wins in 2 games and will hope to extend their unbeaten run.
