Los Angeles Dodgers

Another busy week of brilliant sport is upon us. On Monday, New York Golf Club and Los Angeles Golf Club face off in the first TGL Semi-final. MLB begins its 2025 season on Tuesday, as the Chicago Cubs face the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manchester City host Chelsea on Wednesday in the first leg of their Women’s Champion League Quarter-final. The Netherlands take on defending champions, Spain, in a Nations League Quarterfinals first leg on Thursday. Friday sees more thrilling tennis action at the Miami Open.

The Indian Premier League opens its 2025 season on Saturday and the Formula 1 season continues on Sunday with the Chinese Grand Prix.

TGL: New York Golf Club v Los Angeles Golf Club

New York Golf Club takes on Los Angeles Golf Club in the first TGL Semi-final. Los Angeles, led by Collin Morikawa, cruised through the regular season with a 4-0-1 record, with the only loss being an overtime loss. Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele’s New York was the last team into the playoffs, finishing fourth with a 2-2-1 record. They are playing for a chance to face either Shane Lowry’s The Bay Golf Club or Justin Thomas’ Atlanta Golf Club in next Monday and Tuesday’s SoFi Cup Championship.

MLB: Chicago Cubs v Los Angeles Dodgers

The Tokyo Dome plays host to the start of the MLB season as the Chicago Cubs take on the defending champion, Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers have only gotten stronger since its World Series win last year, adding ace Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki to their lineup. The Cubs enter the season looking to break a five-year playoff drought. While the Chicago team made few offseason moves, fans will be excited to see ace Shota Imanaga start the opening game in his native Japan.

UEFA Women's Champions League: Manchester City Women v Chelsea Women

Manchester City host Chelsea in the second of four matches this month between the two teams, as the sides meet in the Women’s Champions League quarterfinals first leg. The matchup comes four days after Chelsea secured a 2-1 victory in the Women’s League Cup and four days before the teams meet in the Women’s Super League. Chelsea are undefeated in the Champions League so far while Manchester City had to settle for second place in their group after falling to Barcelona on the final day of group play.

UEFA Nations League: Netherlands v Spain

Defending champions Spain travel to the Netherlands for the first leg of the Nations League quarterfinal between the two European powerhouses. Spain had little trouble in the group stage, the only blemish on its record being a goalless draw with Serbia. Meanwhile, the Netherlands had a little more trouble as it finished second to Germany in group play. Finishing with a record of 2-3-1, the Netherlands dropped crucial points in draws to Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Meeting for the first time since 2020, Spain will be looking to beat the Netherlands since 2010.

WTA Tour: Miami Open Day 4

Thrilling hard-court tennis action continues this week with the Miami Open. Both the Men’s and Women’s draws are stacked with talent. On the men’s side, there are four former tournament winners, led by 2022 winner and world number 3, Carlos Alcaraz and six-time winner Novak Djokovic, who competes in Miami for the first time since 2019. Meanwhile, in the women’s draw, world number 15 Danielle Collins will look to defend her title against the full WTA Top 10. One player to watch especially is 7th seed, Elena Rybakina, who has finished runner-up in back-to-back years.

Indian Premier League: Kolkata Knight Riders v Royal Challengers Bengaluru

The Indian Premier League returns, with the Kolkata Knight Riders hosting the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match of 2025. Kolkata are hoping to become the first repeat champions in the IPL since 2020 after snapping their decade-long title drought last year. Meanwhile, Bengaluru will look to improve on a fourth-place finish in 2024 as the franchise continues to hunt for its first title. Both squads have undergone significant changes, with Kolkata adding IPL veterans Ajinkya Rahane and Quinton de Kock while Bengaluru added Josh Hazlewood and Liam Livingstone to their ranks.

Formula 1: Chinese Grand Prix

Shanghai International Circuit, Shanghai

After a thrilling opening race in Melbourne, the F1 season continues in China. Lando Norris leads the drivers’ standings after holding off Max Verstappen in the rain last week in Australia. Also looking to build on a strong opening race is rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who finished fourth in his F1 debut. Verstappen enters as the defending race champion so expect more fireworks on the track in Shanghai.
