Event of the Day: Wales v Australia
Our event of the day
is the rugby union international match between Wales and Australia at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. This is the first of four home tests, known as the Under Armour Series, Wales will play this autumn - the following games are against Georgia, New Zealand and South Africa. Today is a great opportunity for Wales to take revenge on the Wallabies, who have won the last 12 test matches between the sides - Wales’ last victory was all the way back in November 2008. In the last meeting between the teams last autumn, Australia won convincingly 32-8 which included a stunning performance from Australian fly-half Bernard Foley.
A cause for concern inside the Welsh team today is the absence of injured British and Irish Lions players, Justin Tipuric and captain Sam Warburton. Their hopes of victory are still very much alive however with Taulupe Faletau and Jonathan Davies in excellent form. There is a first start at centre for Owen Williams, and Sam Cross and Josh Navidi form a new look back row along with Faletau. For Australia, coach Michael Cheika brings back Will Genia and Foley, who both missed the 63-30 victory over Japan last weekend. Watch out for the Australian centre partnership of Samu Kerevi and Tevita Kuridrani who both impressed against Japan, scoring five tries between them. It should be a thrilling clash for the James Bevan Trophy.
