This Week in Sport: 8th April − 14th April 2024
There are many exciting events taking place this week in the world of sport. On Monday, the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament will come to its conclusion with the National Championship Game, Tuesday will see Real Madrid face Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League, and the Rajasthan Royals take on the Gujarat Titans in the IPL on Wednesday. On Thursday, golf’s Masters Tournament gets underway, and the ATP Tour’s Monte-Carlo Masters continues Friday.
Heading into the weekend, UFC 300 will see Alex Pereira face Jamahal Hill, and Toulouse take on Exeter Chiefs in the European Rugby Champions Cup Quarterfinals on Sunday.
NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament: Purdue v Connecticut

The always exciting March Madness tournament comes to its conclusion on Monday, as the Purdue Boilermakers take on the Connecticut Huskies in the National Championship game. Connecticut, who are looking to defend their 2023 title, defeated Alabama in the Final Four 86-72, whilst Purdue, who didn’t make it through the First Round in 2023, beat NC State 63-50 in their Final Four game.
UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid v Manchester City

The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 gets underway on Tuesday, and perhaps the most highly anticipated fixture of the round sees the 14-time Champions, Real Madrid, take on reigning Champions, Manchester City. The first leg of the tie takes place on Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, with the reverse fixture taking place the week after at the City of Manchester Stadium. This is sure to be a high-quality affair.
Indian Premier League: Rajasthan Royals v Gujarat Titans

On Wednesday, the IPL continues with an exciting matchup between the Rajasthan Royals and the Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The Royals are currently one of only two teams to still be undefeated this season and sit top of the table with four wins out of four. The Titans, who made it to the Final of last year’s competition, ultimately losing to the Chennai Super Kings, have struggled slightly so far this season, only winning two of their opening five matches, so will be looking to improve here.
Major Championships (Golf): Masters Tournament Day 1

Thursday will see the first golf major of the year begin, as the Masters takes place at the Augusta National Golf Course. Jon Rahm returns to defend his title from 2023, but will face tough competition from 2022 Champion Scottie Scheffler, and four-time major Champion Rory McIlroy, who is looking for his first win in this competition. The tournament will conclude on Sunday.
ATP Tour: Monte-Carlo Masters Day 6

On Friday, the ATP Tour’s Monte-Carlo Masters continues into its sixth day, which will see the Quarterfinals take place, with the Semi-Final and Final taking place on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Andrey Rublev returns to defend his 2023 title, where he beat Holger Rune, but there will be tough competition from Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
UFC: UFC 300: Pereira v Hill

T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas
On Saturday, UFC 300 will see Alex Pereira enter the octagon to defend his Light Heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Pereira currently has a record of 9-2-0, whilst Hill sits on a record of 12-1-0. Also on the Main Card, Zhang Weili defends her Women’s Strawweight Title against Yan Xiaonan. The event will begin Saturday afternoon, local time, but the Main Card is scheduled to begin later in the evening.
European Rugby Champions Cup: Stade Toulousain v Exeter Chiefs

The week is rounded out by exciting European Rugby Champions Cup Quarter-Final action, as Toulouse take on the Exeter Chiefs at the Stade Ernest-Wallon on Sunday. The home side defeated Racing 92 comfortably 31-7 in their Round of 16 matchup to progress to the Quarterfinals, whilst the visitors had a tougher time in their game against Bath Rugby, eventually winning 21-15 after trailing at halftime.
