This Week in Sport: 25th September − 1st October 2023

There are some exciting events coming up this week in the world of sport. On Monday, the Cincinnati Bengals host the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL, Tuesday sees the Netherlands take on England in the Women’s Nations League, and India play Australia in the final ODI of their series on Wednesday. Thursday will see more NFL action, with the Green Bay Packers hosting the Detroit Lions, and on Friday, the much-anticipated Ryder Cup will begin.

Heading into the weekend, Collingwood take on the Brisbane Lions in the AFL Grand Final, and the Panthers face the Broncos in the NRL Grand Final on Sunday.

NFL: Cincinnati Bengals v Los Angeles Rams

The Cincinnati Bengals will take on the Los Angeles Rams on Monday at the Paycor Stadium. The Bengals have lost their opening two games of the season, losing narrowly to the Baltimore Ravens and more convincingly to the Cleveland Browns. The Rams, on the other hand, currently sit 1-1 for the season, beating the Seattle Seahawks and losing to a strong San Francisco 49ers side.

Women's Nations League: Netherlands Women v England Women

Tuesday 26th September 6:00PM GMT/8:00PM Local Time

Stadion Galgenwaard, Utrecht

Tuesday will see Women’s Nations League Group A action, as the Netherlands host World Cup runners-up England in Utrecht. The Netherlands lost their opening game of the tournament, losing 2-1 to Belgium. England began their campaign positively, beating rivals Scotland 2-1.

Cricket in India: India v Australia

Wednesday 27th September 8:00AM GMT/1:30PM Local Time

Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot

The third and final ODI between India and Australia will take place on Wednesday, with India already wrapping up the series in the second game in dominant fashion. The hosts will be looking to finish the series with a clean sweep, which will give them huge confidence going into the Cricket World Cup.

NFL: Green Bay Packers v Detroit Lions

Thursday 28th September 12:15AM (29th) GMT/7:15PM Local Time

Lambeau Field, Green Bay

There is more NFL action on Thursday, as the Green Bay Packers take on the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. Both sides head into this match 2-1 for the season, beating some strong teams so far. Most notably was the Lions win against reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, in the season opener.

Ryder Cup: Ryder Cup Day 1

Friday 29th September 5:35AM GMT/7:35AM Local Time

Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Lazio

On Friday, the highly anticipated Ryder Cup gets underway, as the 12 best European golfers take on the 12 best US golfers. This year’s competition will be played at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Lazio, where the USA will look to retain their title. Some notable players competing in the event include Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland for Europe, and Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, and Xander Schauffele for the US.

AFL: Collingwood v Brisbane Lions

Saturday 30th September 4:30AM GMT/2:30PM Local Time

Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne

The AFL season reaches its climax on Saturday, as Collingwood take on the Brisbane Lions in the AFL Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Collingwood were dominant in the regular season, finishing top of the table, and will be hoping to cap off an impressive season with some silverware. The Lions will head into this match full of confidence, though, finishing narrowly behind Collingwood in the regular season table and getting the better of their opponents last time round.

NRL: Panthers v Broncos

Sunday 1st October 8:30AM GMT/7:30PM Local Time

Stadium Australia, Sydney Olympic Park

The Grand Final of the NRL will take place on Sunday, as the Panthers take on the Broncos in an exciting matchup. Both sides finished on the same points in regular season, with the Panthers topping the table due to a higher points difference, so there is little to separate these two sides. Both sides also enjoyed comfortable Preliminary Final victories, with the Broncos beating the Warriors 42-12 and the Panthers defeating the Storm 38-4.
