This Week in Sport: 25th December − 31st December 2023

It’s Christmas week and we’re treated to some exciting sport to round out the year. On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers take on the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL, Tuesday will see South Africa face India in the first game of a two Test match series, and the PDC World Darts Championship continues Wednesday. On Thursday, there is NHL action as the Vegas Golden Knights host the Los Angeles Kings, and Friday will see the Denver Nuggets take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA.

Heading into the weekend, the Dallas Cowboys host the Detroit Lions in the NFL, and the United Cup tennis tournament will see the third day of the event take place on Sunday.

NFL: San Francisco 49ers v Baltimore Ravens

The NFC West leaders, the San Francisco 49ers, will host the AFC North leaders, the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL on Christmas Day at Levi’s Stadium. The hosts sit on a record of 11-3 and will be looking to extend their impressive win streak to seven, whilst the visitors also have a record of 11-3 and will be looking for their fifth win in a row. This is sure to be an exciting matchup.

Cricket in the South Africa: South Africa v India

Tuesday 26th December 8:00AM GMT/10:00AM Local Time

SuperSport Park, Pretoria

On Tuesday, the first Test of the two-match series gets underway between South Africa and India at SuperSport Park in Pretoria. India currently sit top of the ICC Test rankings, whilst the hosts are ranked fourth, so there will be a lot of quality on show in this match. Also beginning on Tuesday is the second Test between Australia and Pakistan, with Australia leading the series 1-0 after a strong first Test performance.

PDC Darts: Paddy Power World Darts Championship Day 10

Wednesday 27th December 12:40PM GMT/12:40PM Local Time

Wednesday will see the PDC World Darts Championship continue at the Alexandra Palace as the competition gets into its business end with the Round of 32. There has been some excellent action in the early rounds of the competition, and notable ties in the next round include Luke Humphries facing Ricardo Pietreczko, reigning champion Michael Smith taking on Madars Razma, and three-time World Champion Michael van Gerwen going up against Richard Veenstra.

NHL: Vegas Golden Knights v Los Angeles Kings

Thursday 28th December 3:00AM (29th) GMT/7:00PM Local Time

T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas

There is NHL action on Thursday, with reigning NHL Champions the Vegas Golden Knights hosting the Los Angeles Kings in a Pacific Division clash. The Golden Knights currently sit second in the division, just behind the Vancouver Canucks, whilst the Kings are in third, but have played five less games than their opponents so will be looking at this matchup as an opportunity to gain ground on the champions.

NBA: Denver Nuggets v Oklahoma City Thunder

Friday 29th December 2:00AM (30th) GMT/7:00PM Local Time

Ball Arena, Denver

Friday will see the Denver Nuggets face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA at the Ball Arena. The Nuggets, who are the reigning NBA champions after winning the Finals for the first time in their history last season, sit second in the Western Conference with a record of 21-10, just ahead of their opponents the Thunder in third, who have a record of 18-9.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys v Detroit Lions

Saturday 30th December 1:15AM (31st) GMT/7:15PM Local Time

AT&T Stadium, Arlington

On Saturday, there will be more exciting NFL action, with the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Detroit Lions at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Both teams have enjoyed strong seasons so far, with the Cowboys sitting second in the NFC East, just behind the Philadelphia Eagles, and their opponents sitting top of the NFC North, so this is sure to offer up some high-quality action.

ATP and WTA Tour: United Cup Day 3

Sunday 31st December 11:30PM (30th) GMT/10:30AM Local Time

Ken Rosewall Arena, Sydney & RAC Arena, Perth

On Sunday, the second edition of the mixed-gender United Cup tennis tournament continues at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney and the RAC Arena in Perth. The USA, who won the inaugural event in January 2023, will return to defend their title, and will be in action against Great Britain in Perth on Sunday. Also playing on Sunday, China face Serbia in Perth, and Canada take on Chile in Sydney.
