Despite the conclusion of the wonderful Paris Olympics, there are some great sporting events taking place around the world this week. The Canadian Open tennis finishes on Monday, the Northern Superchargers play the London Spirit in the Hundred on Tuesday as the competition begins to come to a conclusion, the UEFA Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atalanta is on Wednesday, the FedEx St. Jude Championship begins on Thursday, and Friday will see Manchester United take on Fulham in the Premier League opener.

Heading into the weekend, the Vuelta a España starts on Saturday, and Chelsea battle Manchester City on Sunday.

ATP Tour: Canadian Open Finals

IGA Stadium, Montréal

The Canadian Open will wrap up on Monday at the IGA Stadium in Montréal, featuring the Men’s Singles Final between Andrey Rublev and Alexei Popyrin, and the Men’s Doubles Finals. The Women’s Singles Final between Diana Shnaider and Jessica Pegula and the Women’s Doubles Finals will be held at the Aviva Centre in Toronto.

The Hundred: Northern Superchargers v London Spirit

Headingley Cricket Ground, Leeds

The Hundred continues on Tuesday with the Northern Superchargers taking on London Spirit in both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. An injury to Ben Stokes will likely have a big impact on the Men's Superchargers team but they still have a good chance to make the knockout stages, unlike the Spirit. In the Women's game both teams are strongly in the mix for the knockouts. The Final of both the Men’s and Women’s competitions will take place on Sunday at Lord's Cricket Ground.

UEFA Super Cup: Real Madrid v Atalanta

Kazimierz Górski National Stadium, Warszawa

Wednesday will see Real Madrid lock horns with Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup at Kazimierz Górski National Stadium in Warsaw. Madrid will strive to overtake rivals Barcelona and Milan by becoming the first team to claim a sixth Super Cup title. Meanwhile, Atalanta are in a tough spot currently, losing 3-0 to St. Pauli in their most recent preseason game with key man Nicolò Zaniolo injured.

PGA Tour: FedEx St. Jude Championship

Thursday 15th August 2:00PM GMT/09:00AM Local Time

TPC Southwind, Memphis

The FedEx St. Jude Championship is set to begin on Thursday at TPC Southwind in Memphis. Lucas Glover will be back to defend his title but will face tough competition from Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and Ludvig Aberg. The FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first of the three FedEx Cup playoff events to decide the Tour champion.

Premier League: Manchester United v Fulham FC

Old Trafford, Manchester

On Friday, the eagerly anticipated Premier League season kicks off with Manchester United hosting Fulham at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will aim to begin their top-flight campaign with a home victory after losing to Manchester City on penalties in the Community Shield. Fulham, on the other hand, will be looking to repeat last season’s success at Old Trafford, where they secured a 2-1 win.

Vuelta a España: Vuelta a España Stage 1

Saturday 17th August 3:20PM GMT/4:20PM Local Time

Lisbon

The 79th edition of Vuelta a España, the final grand tour of the year, will start on Saturday in Lisbon and finish in the Spanish capital of Madrid on 8th September with a time trial. Sepp Kuss will be back to defend his title and hopes for a repeat of 2023. Primoz Roglic, Adam Yates, and Joao Almeida will also fancy their chances and no doubt will provide spectacular performances in this thrilling bike race.

Premier League: Chelsea v Manchester City

Sunday 18th August 3:30PM GMT/4:30PM Local Time

Stamford Bridge, London

Sunday sees Manchester City start the latest defence of their Premier League title with a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea. City, favourites for the title again, will look to turn four consecutive titles into five. For Chelsea, this is the start of another new era. City are unbeaten against Chelsea since their loss to the Blues in the Champions League Final in May 2021.
