This Week in Sport: 11th March − 17th March 2024
There are some exciting sporting events taking place this week in the world of sport. On Monday, the Indian Wells Open continues with Day 6 of the event, Tuesday will see Arsenal take on FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League, and the Vancouver Canucks host the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL on Wednesday. On Thursday, the PGA Tour’s THE PLAYERS Championship gets underway, and Friday will see Chelsea face Arsenal in the FA Women’s Super League.
Heading into the weekend, the final round of matches in the men’s Six Nations take place on Saturday, and Sunday will see Manchester United host rivals Liverpool in the FA Cup.

The Indian Wells Open continues into another week at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and Day 6 on Monday will see some exciting action. Taking place on Monday in the women’s competition, last year’s runner-up, Aryna Sabalenka, will face Emma Raducanu and Coco Gauff takes on Lucia Bronzetti. In the men’s singles, Novak Djokovic faces Luca Nardi, Daniil Medvedev takes on Sebastian Korda, and Holger Rune will play Lorenzo Musetti. The Final of both single’s tournaments will take place on Sunday.
UEFA Champions League: Arsenal v FC Porto

On Tuesday, Arsenal will host FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg at the Emirates Stadium. FC Porto won the reverse fixture 1-0 and will be hoping to produce an upset by beating a high-flying Arsenal side in this tie. Arsenal will be confident in their ability to overturn the deficit, after a run of exceptional form in the Premier League.
NHL: Vancouver Canucks v Colorado Avalanche

There is NHL action on Wednesday, as the Vancouver Canucks host the Colorado Avalanche at Rogers Arena. The Canucks currently sit top of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference and are looking for a fifth successive win. The Avalanche themselves will be hoping to get their fourth consecutive win and give themselves a chance of moving up the Central Division standings, currently sitting in third, four points behind the division leading Dallas Stars.
PGA Tour: THE PLAYERS Championship Day 1

The PGA Tour’s THE PLAYERS Championship gets underway on Thursday at TPC Sawgrass. Often referred to as the fifth major in golf, the tournament sees many of the best players in the world take part. Scottie Scheffler returns to defend his title and comes in as favourite for this year’s tournament after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational convincingly last week.
FA Women’s Super League: Chelsea Women v Arsenal Women

The FA Women’s Super League title race heats up on Friday, as top of the table Chelsea host third place Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are looking to win their fifth consecutive title this season, whilst Arsenal are eyeing up a first title since the 2018/19 season, but will need to avoid losing here to stay in touch with Chelsea and Manchester City in first and second place, respectively.
Six Nations: Final Matchday

On Saturday, the men’s Six Nations enters its final round of matches, and there is still a lot to play for after England’s last-minute winner over reigning champions Ireland in matchday four. Wales face Italy first on Saturday, with the two sides battling to avoid the wooden spoon; Ireland then host Scotland, and a win for the home side would win them the title for the second year running; England will look to once again ruin their party, but will need to beat France with four or more tries and also see Ireland lose their match to Scotland without a losing bonus point to win the title themselves.
FA Cup: Manchester United v Liverpool

There is exciting FA Cup Quarter-Final action on Sunday, as Manchester United host rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford. Liverpool, who recently won the Carabao Cup Final against Chelsea, will be favourites going into this one. United will hope home-advantage will help them get an edge over their rivals on Sunday.
