Event of the Day: England v India

Our event of the day is day two of the second Test match between England and India in London. England secured a thrilling victory in the first Test at Edgbaston, which should have led to a fascinating first day at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Both teams were kept on tender hooks with rain delays continuing to delay the start of play until the day was finally called off at 4pm.

After a historically good English summer, the first day of the Lord’s Test was a wash out for the first time in 17 years. In the first Test, both captains scored well, with England’s Joe Root grabbing 80 and Virat Kholi scoring 149 in the first innings and a 51 in the second. The Indian team will need to support their skipper more if they are to come out on top in the series. In team news, England have replaced Ben Stokes with Chris Woakes and brought in debutant Ollie Pope for the dropped Dawid Malan. In the Indian camp, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has failed in his race to fitness and will not represent his country at Lord's. With rain delaying the start at the home of cricket, we are set for an interesting Test as India attempt to fight back and make it 1 - 1 in London.
