Event of the Day: Los Angeles Dodgers v Houston Astros

Our event of the day

is Game 6 of the MLB World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium. The Astros travel to LA leading the series 3-2 after a 13-12 win in Game 5 which will go down as one of the most exciting games in recent World Series history. The Astros are now only one win away from clinching the world title and if tonight’s game is anything like the last, baseball fans will be in for a treat. With the series delicately poised at 2-2 the Astros needed to make the most of their final home game of the postseason – and what a game it was at Minute Maid Park with both sides refusing to lie down.

The Dodgers took a 4-1 lead before being pegged back to 4-4 thanks to a 3-run homerun from Yuli Gurriel which gave Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw (widely believed to be one of the best pitchers in the world) an unwanted MLB record of giving up 8 homeruns this postseason. Poor pitching was a common feature in the game as the Dodgers built another 3-point lead before Jose Altuve hit his seventh homerun of the postseason to tie the game 7-7. The Astros would go on to lead 12-9 and the Dodgers would rely on a 2-run homerun from Yasiel Puig to close the gap and an RBI from Chris Taylor. The tied match then entered a tenth innings with the Astros emerging victorious thanks to an Alex Bregman walk-off single. This epic encounter sets up a truly mouth-watering match in LA tonight.

Honourable mentions

around the globe go to the UEFA Champions League fixture between Manchester United and Benfica at Old Trafford. United won the reverse fixture 1-0 a couple of weeks ago and will hope to build on the confidence gained from an important domestic 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend. Benfica are currently bottom of the group without a win in 3 matches. The football doesn’t end there, with ten fixtures in the EFL Championship including the game between promotion-chasing sides Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road. There are four NBA games including the Los Angeles Lakers matchup against the Detroit Pistons at the Staples Center and the NHL season continues with three games today, including the Minnesota Wild against the Winnipeg Jets at the Xcel Energy Center. In tennis, it’s the second day of the ATP Rolex Paris Masters at the AccorHotels Arena.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
